American Green Standard consults to homeowners thinking about remodeling or building a new home. Our consultants come to your home or office to help you with a sensible plan for your location. Our consultants can also help you obtain green financing and rebates or incentives.
Many of our consulting engagements begin with an energy audit or a home performance audit (includes water usage, moisture management to avoid mold and mildew, and drainage issues). The auditor will use specialized equipment such as a blower door to detect air leaks in the building envelope or an infrared camera to detect areas with insufficient insulation. The auditors are well trained and will provide a report which will help you assess the best improvements for your budget.

New Home Construction
Our consultants can help you decide which green building features to include. They are familiar with site selection, building positioning, thermal mass, energy conservation, water conservation, water collection and reuse. The proper selection of energy efficient windows, appliances, and materials can mean a more comfortable home with much lower fixed maintenance and utility costs.
Energy and Home Performance Audits
A home audit will help you decide what changes will result in cost effective energy improvements, better comfort, and more efficient water use.
Rates for home audits:
$550 for homes up to 2,000 square feet
$750 for homes 2,001-3,500 square feet
$1,000 for homes 3,501-5,000 square feet
(Price will be determined after site visit.)
Other consulting rates:
There is a minimum 2 hour charge. The first hour is $250 with each subsequent hour $150.
